Sony boss dismisses Fortnite cross-play controversy: ‘PlayStation is the best spot to play’
Sony has been blocking cross-play and development between
Fortnite on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Change / Xbox One.
While there have been some indicators the business was hearing the opinions to its
controversial decision, Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida has made the company’s position clear. Within an interview with
the Press Association (via The Indie) at IFA the other day, Yoshida statements the
PlayStation 4 is the best experience to try out
Fortnite:
“On cross-platform, our way of thinking is always that
PlayStation is the best spot to play. Fortnite, I really believe, partnered with PlayStation 4 is the best
experience for users, that’s our perception. But
actually, we already opened up some video
games as cross-platform with Personal computer
plus some others, so we determine
based on what's the best consumer
experience. That's our thought
process for cross-platform.”
Fortnite fans utilizing a Nintendo Switch have made their emotions clear over Sony’s stance, and it’s particularly annoying as it blocks the sync of items and progression between your PS4 and Nintendo Switch. Which
means Fortnite players have to produce an completely new account on the Change if they’ve performed on the PS4
before.
Sony has blocked cross-play between PS4 and Xbox
One for Fortnite previously, Rocket Little league,
and Minecraft, despite Nintendo and Microsoft helping it.
Microsoft and Nintendo teamed up to market cross-play in
Minecraft within an uncommon move. Even
though, Yoshida says competition with Xbox and Nintendo is a “healthy
situation” for Sony and the whole industry.
While
Yoshida doesn’t manage PlayStation directly, he’s still the
entire mind of Sony and really
should know about the company’s programs. Yoshida’s response helps it be
clear Sony does not have any intention of allowing Fortnite cross-play as the
business feels it gets the best consumer experience for the overall
game. That doesn’t imply Sony won’t allow cross-play for future video games,
but if you were still wishing to play with your Fortnite
PS4 accounts on a Change or Xbox One then it’s probably
never heading to happen.
